Indonesia’s Trade Balance Surpluses for 42 Consecutive Months

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that Indonesia’s trade balance in October 2023 had a surplus of US$ 3.48 billion.

The surplus experienced a slight increase of 0.07% compared to September 2023 which reached US$ 3.41 billion.

However, there was a decrease of 2.12% compared to October 2022. In October 2023, Indonesia’s trade balance managed to record a surplus for 42 consecutive months

BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Pudji Ismartini, said that the value of Indonesia’s exports in October 2023 reached US$ 22.15 billion, an increase of 6.76% compared to exports in September 2023. However, there was a significant decline of 10.43% compared to October 2022.

“Meanwhile, Indonesia’s import value in October 2023 reached US$ 18.67 billion, an increase of 7.68% compared to September 2023, but a decrease of 2.42% compared to October 2022,” he said when giving a hybrid press statement. in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 15 2023.

He stated that in October 2023, Indonesia’s trade balance managed to record a surplus for 42 consecutive months. This surplus was mostly supported by non-oil and gas commodities amounting to US$ 5.31 billion, with mineral fuels (HS27), fats, vegetable animal oils (HS 15), and iron and steel goods (HS 72) being the main surplus contributors.

However, the oil and gas commodity trade balance experienced a deficit of US$ 1.84 billion in October 2023. Crude oil and oil products contributed to the deficit in this sector.

Pudji emphasized that cumulatively, from January to October 2023, Indonesia’s total trade balance surplus reached US$ 31.22 billion. However, the total trade balance surplus this year decreased by US$ 14.22 billion compared to the same period last year which reached US$ 45.44 billion. (AT Network)
