ASIATODAY.ID, BATAM – Chargé d’Affaires Ad Interim (KUAI) of the United States Embassy to Indonesia Michael F. Kleine together with the Head of the Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) of the Republic of Indonesia, Vice Admiral TNI Dr. Irvansyah, S.H., M.Tr.Opsla., inaugurated the Maritime Training Center “Anambas” in Batam.
“Today marks an important milestone in maritime cooperation between the United States and Indonesia. “In the four years since the groundbreaking, this new training center will increase Indonesia’s maritime capabilities and strengthen Indonesia’s role as a leader in fighting crime at the domestic and transnational levels,” said KUAI Kleine, Tuesday, January 30 2024.
Head of the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency, Vice Admiral TNI Dr. Irvansyah, S.H., M.Tr. Opsla. said that in the ocean of friendship between the United States and Indonesia, the Maritime Training Center “Anambas” in Batam was a historic milestone.
“Together, we will not only carry out training for sailors, but also strengthen ties between countries and strengthen ties that encourage progress and maritime security for a safe and prosperous future,” he said.
Financed by the US Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL), construction of the $1.5 million Maritime Training Center marks the completion of the second phase of the collaboration in Batam. This comprehensive training center includes six classrooms, a conference room and offices.
Previously, the first phase of construction was completed in June 2022, with an allocation of more than $700,000 for dining hall facilities, as well as men’s and women’s barracks which can accommodate up to 50 students and 12 instructors.
This first phase is funded by the US Indo-Pacific Command’s Joint Interagency Task Force West. Both phases of the project received support from the US Coast Guard (USCG) and US Naval Facilities Engineering Command.
The inauguration of this Training Center was held after previously signing the Maritime Security Bilateral Work Plan on November 8 2023, which aims to direct INL’s capacity development assistance to further increase maritime domain awareness and law enforcement in Indonesian seas. (AT Network)
