ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The international survey institute, The Spectator Index named Wae Rebo Traditional Village in Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province as the second most beautiful village in the world in 2024 after Rothenburg Ob der Tauber in Germany.

“The people of East Nusa Tenggara should be proud because the Wae Rebo Traditional Village has been named the second most beautiful village in the world,” said God’s Acting Head of East Nusa Tenggara Tourism, Joni Lie Rohi in his statement, Wednesday, March 20 2024.

Joni said this coronation was after the agency released the results of their survey of a number of villages or small towns in the world with amazing natural and cultural beauty.

According to Joni, the entire people of East Nusa Tenggara should also be proud because of all the tourist areas in Indonesia, only Wae Rebo village in Manggarai Regency was seen by this institution.

Wae Rebo is a village located at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level and surrounded by mountains. The number of residents living in the area is estimated to only reach 1,200 people.

This village consists of seven traditional cone-shaped houses which are its own attraction. Wae Rebo has also been named a world cultural heritage in 2021.

Joni said that it should be acknowledged that several tourism potentials in East Nusa Tenggara are being looked at by the world, the latest of which is that the island of Sumba has been designated as the most beautiful island in the world.

“This time it’s Wae Rebo. This means that we have the attraction to attract world tourists to visit,” he added.

According to him, the success of Wae Rebo and also the island of Sumba as two of the most beautiful locations in the world is due to the concept of sustainable regional tourism development which is related to Community Based Tourism to build tourism in the future.

He added that what needs to be encouraged now is the quality of tourist service so that tourists who come can have an interesting experience and can encourage tourists to keep coming.

“We hope that what Wae Rebo has achieved will become a reference for other tourist areas to continue to develop the concept of sustainable tourism so that it becomes better known to the world,” he added. (ATN)
