ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian government has positively welcomed the Tropical Forest Forever Fund (TFFF) Initiative.
The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia, Luhut B. Pandjaitan, while attending a virtual meeting discussing the TFFF Initiative, on Tuesday, April 2 2024, said that Indonesia would be happy to study this initiative.
TFFF is an initiative to respond to the threat of deforestation and to fill gaps in funding for forestry conservation and preservation.
“This initiative from Brazil is very good, especially as it can unite countries that have joined together to speak out about forestry and climate change,” said Luhut, quoted on Saturday, April 6 2024.
“Our concern for tropical forests is a form of our concern for the future of the younger generation, so it needs to be studied in more depth. “This plays an important role globally so what is needed now is real action,”.
“Indonesia has succeeded in reducing the impact of deforestation by 82 percent and reducing plastic waste entering the sea by 42 percent over the last year, what we need now is action,” he said.
This Virtual Meeting was opened by Marina Silva – Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Brazil and attended by several ministers from invited countries: Nik Nazmi – Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Malaysia, Susana Muhammad – Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Colombia and Samuel Jinapor – Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Ghana.
