ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – All tourists entering or leaving Singapore carrying more than S$ 20,000 in cash are required to report online starting May 13 2024.
Apart from cash, those carrying traveler’s checks and money orders with a value of S$ 20,000 must also report.
Currently, travelers are required to submit their declarations in printed form. However, this rule will be discontinued on May 13.
“To make the declaration simpler and more convenient, we will move it online,” said the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in a press release, Friday, April 19 2024.
According to the SPF, the declaration helps Singapore’s efforts to combat criminal activities such as money laundering. Police added that such requirements are common in many countries.
Tourists who fail to make complete and accurate statements regarding cash and other instruments can be jailed for up to three years, or fined up to S$ 50,000, or both.
The new online declaration form will be available on the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website or the MyICA app from 10 May.
Travelers will be asked to provide details, the country or region of origin or destination of bringing the money, as well as their reasons.
Travelers arriving in Singapore can select “send cash statement” after completing the Singapore Arrival Card online.
Once the declaration is successfully submitted, travelers will receive an acknowledgment email which can be provided as evidence to ICA officers if needed at the checkpoint.
Travelers can apply up to three days before arrival or departure from Singapore. They must complete the declaration before arriving at the Singapore checkpoint.
Anyone who makes a mistake in their statement must cancel it and submit a new one online. If their travel plans change, they must also cancel the statement. (AT Network)
