ASIATODAY.ID, TAGATAY – The Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries initiated a program to increase human resource capacity in the ASEAN region through Vocational Goes to Actors (VOGA) on a wider scale. This was conveyed through a proposal presented at the 56th Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) Council Meeting, in Taygaytay, Philippines.
Head of the Indonesian Maritime and Fisheries Human Resources Extension and Development Agency, I Nyoman Radiarta, as Leader of the Indonesian Delegation at the SEAFDEC Council Meeting said, VOGA is one of the programs proposed in the proposal and has been discussed specifically by all heads of state delegations and the Secretary General of SEAFDEC .
“The aim of the program is for SEAFDEC to facilitate fisheries high school graduates in ASEAN countries to be connected with fisheries stakeholders in the region, both fishing companies and universities,” said I Nyoman Radiarta, Saturday, May 18 2024.
Nyoman explained that increasing human resources through the VOGA program in the ASEAN region includes joint collaboration through the development and alignment of vocational education curricula throughout the region to ensure alignment with industry needs, technological advances and sustainability goals.
In addition, Training of Trainers (ToT) is also carried out by providing training and professional development opportunities for educators and vocational trainers to improve their pedagogical skills, industry knowledge and teaching methodology.
“Infrastructure development, industry engagement/internship programs, as well as knowledge sharing platforms such as seminars and workshops on marine and fisheries education are also carried out in collaboration,” he explained.
For information, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is committed to encouraging the implementation of blue economic development through five priority programs. The program includes conservation activities, quota-based fishing, development of sustainable cultivation, monitoring the use of coasts and small islands, and handling plastic waste in the sea.
To support these five priority programs, the Maritime and Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development Agency has established strategic programs, namely Vocational Goes to Actors (VOGA) and Smart Fisheries Village (SFV).
“The cooperation in implementing the blue economy is carried out in order to increase human resource development which focuses on the participation of the fisheries community as the main actor in carrying out VOGA and SFV fisheries activities,” explained Nyoman.
In developing these two programs, collaboration can be implemented, including through sister classes/programs/universities/scholarships/degrees, between educational units within the scope of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and educational institutions in SEAFDEC member countries.
SEAFDEC is an intergovernmental organization founded by Japan, Singapore and Thailand on December 28 1967. This organization aims to support fisheries development in the Southeast Asia region.
SEAFDEC members are all countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Japan. (AT Network)
