ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian State Electricity Company, PT PLN (Persero) is again holding a discussion forum entitled Road to PLN Investment Day 2024 in Jakarta, on Wednesday, June 4 2024.

The agenda, which was attended by various stakeholders ranging from government, business, banking, academics, to domestic and foreign investors, was an effort to build global collaboration in accelerating the clean energy transition in Indonesia.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained that global warming has become a problem for all countries in the world. Therefore, PLN continues to strive to establish global collaboration which will be the key to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and achieving Net Zero emissions (NZE) by 2060.

“Remember, the impact of 1 ton of emissions is the same everywhere. So this is a global challenge. We need to solve this with a global solution approach. “So we are here to convey that PLN is fully committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and is ready to collaborate with various parties,” said Darmawan.

Darmawan also revealed that the Government together with PLN are currently preparing the Accelerating Renewable Energy Development (ARED) program which will be translated into a Business Plan for Additional Electric Power (RUPTL). Through ARED, the additional portion of generation will come from renewable energy by 75% and gas by 25% until 2040.

“This RUPTL will once again become the greenest RUPTL in Indonesian history. “This RUPTL is also in line with the General National Electricity Plan (RUKN),” added Darmawan.

With ARED, PLN is building national electricity distribution through the Green Enabling Super Grid. Making Indonesia’s electricity system, which was previously separated between islands, connected to each other and the potential for new, large-scale renewable energy that has not been exploited so far can be maximized. Renewable energy-based electricity supply will increase from 22 GW to 61 GW in 2040. Then, to overcome the challenge of intermittency from renewable energy sources, PLN is also building a smart grid with smart power plants and flexible generation equipped with smart transmission, smart distribution, smart control center and smart meters.

Darmawan admitted that a large energy transition program would not be able to be carried out by PLN alone. For this reason, through this event the party invites business entities, both local and global, to establish mutually beneficial collaborations while strengthening their respective business portfolios.

”This is an opportunity to collaborate together in order to provide electricity that is not only affordable, but also reliable and sustainable. Why? “Because we need to keep the momentum of economic growth going and in the process we build national capacity that can create jobs, fight poverty and at the same time preserve the environment,” concluded Darmawan.
