ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Former Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil is trusted to be a judge in New York, United States (US), where hundreds of urban planning programs throughout the world are included. This event was organized by the World Resource Institute (WRI) with the name WRI Ross Center Prize for Cities 2023-2024.
“I have the honor of being a judge representing Indonesia to select the best urban planning program in the world,” said Ridwan Kamil as quoted, Wednesday, June 19 2024.
A total of 200 programs were included in the 2023-2024 WRI Ross Center Prize for Cities. Hundreds of programs come from 148 cities and 62 countries. All of them were sent to WRI from 26 June 2023-26 September 2023. Of the hundreds of programs, there are now the top five which will be presented directly in front of the judges.
“Unfortunately there are none from Indonesia yet. Hopefully there will be in the future,” explained Ridwan Kamil.
Meanwhile, Ridwan Kamil will be a judge along with several other world figures. Ridwan Kamil is trusted because of his achievements so far in leading West Java.
“Ridwan Kamil is the governor of West Java, Indonesia, with a population of more than 50 million people,” wrote WRI on their website.
Previously, Ridwan Kamil received an honorary doctorate from the University of Glasgow for his work as governor of West Java for the 2018-2023 period.
This title was given for his leadership and development innovation, including when he was mayor of Bandung and Governor of West Java.
Through a statement delivered at the senate session awarding an honorary doctorate degree to Ridwan Kamil, the University of Glasgow said that he was a multitalented figure. Calling Ridwan Kamil a visionary architect, a loving and compassionate leader, and a person who never tires of fighting for the progress of society.
“The journey began in the city of Bandung,” said Senior Vice Principal and Deputy Vice Chancellor University of Glasgow Professor Frank Coton in his statement, Wednesday, June 12 2024.
After graduating from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Ridwan Kamil began his journey as an architect by interning at one of the leading architectural firms in the United States. Ridwan Kamil then continued his studies at the University of California and received a master’s degree in urban design.
In the same statement, the University of Glasgow touched on Ridwan Kamil’s experience as an architect in Hong Kong and the beginnings of Urbane Indonesia. Urbane Indonesia is an architectural firm based in Bandung City. Ridwan Kamil founded Urbane Indonesia with his colleagues.
According to the University of Glasgow, the architectural firm’s reach is extensive and impressive. Together with Urbane Indonesia, Ridwan Kamil worked on a number of large projects, both at home and abroad.
