ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) fully supports Indonesia’s accession to become a member of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
This was conveyed by the Secretary General of the ICC, John W.H. Denton AO when he met the Coordinating Minister for the Indonesian Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 23 2024.
This meeting was a follow-up to the meeting held at the Special Economic Zone Business Forum in London last April.
“We are very happy and support Indonesia’s accession process to the OECD and the ICC is open to helping make this accession a success,” said ICC Secretary General Denton.
Minister Airlangga welcomed this support, which he hopes will continue with cooperation.
On the same occasion, ICC Secretary General Denton also conveyed information about the ICC Center of Entrepreneurship (ICC CoE) program in Jakarta which aims to develop a global entrepreneurial ecosystem network. Apart from that, the two of them also discussed Indonesia’s position in the World Trade Organization (WTO) E-Commerce Moratorium.
“Indonesia’s position refers to the principle of a level playing field so that there are the same policies between digital markets and physical markets, especially for developing countries,” stressed Airlangga.
ICC Secretary General Denton understands Indonesia’s position and is open to discussing the potential of the wider digital economy. In this case, Indonesia also highlighted ASEAN’s achievements in the Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) as a forum for accelerating ASEAN’s transformation into a leading digital economic region.
Furthermore, Minister Airlangga and ICC Secretary General Denton also agreed on the importance of global collaboration in the field of food supply chains. ICC has initiated this program with support from FAO and invites Indonesia to participate in developing this initiative.
Several aspects supported by this initiative include connecting farmers with markets, traceability, and standardization of supply chains for food commodities. Apart from that, the discussion also discussed various economic opportunities amidst the challenges of the world geopolitical situation. (AT Network)
