ASIATODAY.ID, KOLAKA – The climate and biodiversity crisis currently being experienced by the world has encouraged companies in Asia to take real action to support the commitment to achieve Net Zero Emission (NZE), one of which is PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama.
As a National Strategic Project (PSN) oriented towards producing green nickel products in Indonesia, PT Ceria continues to strive to build awareness and direct community involvement through mangrove conservation in the coastal area of Wolo District, Kolaka Regency.
To increase community enthusiasm, the initiative which was held on the occasion of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day, World Earth and Mangrove Day was also combined with a light sports activity entitled ‘Green Fun Run 5 Kilometers’ which was held in the area on Saturday, August 10 2024. No less, 420 people took part in this event.
This mangrove conservation activity is realized through the planting of thousands of mangrove trees in coastal areas. It is hoped that the mangrove forests planted together with the community will have long-term benefits as carbon storage, absorbing pollutants, protecting coastlines from abrasion and natural disasters, restoring local biodiversity and coastal ecology, a source of food and fuel, and becoming an economic source for local communities through tourist.
“This mangrove planting is one of the company’s commitments to maintaining and rehabilitating coastal and marine ecosystems. This is in line with PT Ceria’s commitment to implementing Environmental, Sustainability and Governance (ESG) principles. We are very happy because this activity has received extraordinary support from the community,” said the Chair of the committee which is also the PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama Summit, Alpi.
PT Ceria’s Operational Director, Yusram Rantesalu emphasized that the celebration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia should be carried out in a spirit of togetherness that is oriented towards advancing Indonesia’s prosperity.
“We must continue to fully adhere to the spirit of mutual cooperation, unity and tolerance, as well as helping each other, working hand in hand in fulfilling this independence,” he hoped.
The local government appreciates this initiative from PT Ceria. Apart from providing long-term benefits for the preservation of mangroves in local coastal areas, this activity is also a means of educating the community about the importance of climate action and a healthy, pollution-free lifestyle.
“As the government, we hope that activities like this will continue to be carried out in the future to maintain the mangrove ecosystem so that it remains sustainable,” said Alfian Makmur, Secretary of the Kolaka Environmental Service. (AT Network)
