ASIATODAY.ID, CANBERRA – Minister of Defense who is also President-elect of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister the Hon Anthony Albanese MP and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, the Hon Richard Marles MP, in Canberra, Australia, Tuesday, 20 August 2024. On that occasion a discussion was held regarding improving bilateral relations between the two countries.
Prabowo expressed his highest respect to the Australian PM and his staff for welcoming and welcoming the arrival of the Indonesian delegation.
“I really appreciate the friendly relations between us because Indonesia always remembers that Australia was one of the first countries to support the struggle for Indonesian independence in the 40s,” said Prabowo, quoted from a press release from the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, Wednesday, August 21 2024.
“I am determined to continue this neighborly relationship even better,” he continued.
Meanwhile, PM Albanese said that the Australian government is committed to working with Indonesia to create the type of region that both countries want.
“A region that is peaceful, stable and prosperous, and respects sovereignty,” Albanese said.
Apart from that, the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, Hon Richard Marles MP, also expressed his pleasure at being able to work together and get to know Prabowo as Minister of Defense for this big step in defense cooperation between the two countries.
“Australia and Indonesia are working together more closely than ever before and expanding the scope and complexity of joint exercises as we tackle shared regional challenges,” said Deputy PM Richard.
Indonesia and Australia will also renew cooperation in the form of The Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA), to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
