This award is a form of government appreciation for PT Ceria’s Good Mining Practice dedication in managing the mineral and coal mining environment for groups of mining business permit (IUP) holders in the context of domestic investment in metallic mineral commodities.

Operational Director of PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama, Yusram Rantesalu, said the company was quite proud of this award. Because, Ceria has consistently implemented Good Mining Practice and Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) principles.

As a National Strategic Project in downstream nickel, Ceria has set a rodmap to produce green nickel products and become a competitive player in the nickel market and global Electric Vehicle (EV) battery industry. Therefore, implementing ESG in all Ceria activities is fundamental.

“This award is very meaningful for Ceria which is currently in the final stages of completing the smelter project. This award is a tangible form of the hard work of our team and our partners, as well as the community that supports our operations. “This motivates us to continue to prioritize ESG standards at the core of every operational decision we make,” he said.

“The company is optimistic that, with the support of the government and Team, Ceria will be able to contribute to the national economy as well as become a barometer for downstream nickel in Indonesia,” he added.

The Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, emphasized the importance of implementing ESG principles in the mineral and coal mining subsector for business sustainability and increasing competitiveness, including providing awareness that environmental management is one of the fundamental aspects needed in the energy and environmentally friendly transition period.

“Global consensus, especially regarding important issues such as climate change and the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target, must be balanced with the development of environmentally friendly mining methods and reducing emissions by using renewable energy in mining activities,” said Bahlil.

Minister Bahlil reported that in September 2024, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources recorded state revenues from the mineral and coal subsector reaching 99.34 trillion rupiah (87.49%) of the 2024 target. According to him, this value is proof that the mineral and coal subsector is the main pillar for the Indonesian economy.

Therefore, it is necessary for business entities to collaborate with the government in responding to challenges with a positive attitude and optimism. Bahlil emphasized the importance of collaboration between local mining companies and foreign investors in smelter management.

“Existing smelters, whether from Europe, Korea, Japan or China, must be able to collaborate with Production Business Permit (IUP) holders in Indonesia,” he said.

Bahlil also highlighted the importance of post-mining management that is oriented towards community interests. “After mining is important, the people must also be cared for. Big profits are important, but the people must also be cared for. Don’t let the mining community suffer,” he concluded.

Director General of Mineral and Coal, Tri Winarno, said that the GMP Award was intended to give appreciation to mining companies holding KK, PKP2B, IUP, IUPK and mining service companies holding IUJP who excel in implementing good mineral and coal mining engineering principles.

According to him, this award is a parameter of success for the government in developing technical aspects of mining.

“It is hoped that this activity can increase motivation for all mining business actors to continue carrying out mining operations in accordance with the principles of implementing good mineral and coal mining engineering principles, as well as become a benchmark for the government for success in developing and supervising technical and environmental aspects of activities. mineral and coal mining business,” explained Tri Winarno.

The assessment of achievements in implementing good mining engineering principles includes aspects: Mineral and Coal Mining Technical Management; Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management; Environmental Management of Mineral and Coal Mining; Implementation of Mineral and Coal Conservation;  As well as Management of Mineral and Coal Mining Services Businesses.
