Dozens of Chinese Warships and Warplanes Detected in Taiwan Territory

People Liberation Army (PLA). Doc

ASIATODAY.ID, TAIPEI – Taiwan stated that it had detected 16 Chinese warships in its territory, on Thursday, December 12 2024. This is the largest number of Chinese fleets sent there throughout 2024.

Apart from that, 34 Chinese warplanes were also detected in the area during the last 24 hours. The presence of the war fleet took place amid increasing tensions due to Chinese military exercises in the area.

Beijing’s maneuvers involved around 90 warships and coast guard ships. The military exercises focused on simulating attacks on foreign ships and blockades of sea lanes. The massive military exercise covers a wide area from waters near Japan’s southern islands to the South China Sea.

Taiwan said the drills aimed to show that China could block supplies heading to Taiwan. Beijing itself has not confirmed or denied the existence of this military exercise. There has been no official announcement from the Chinese government or military regarding increased activity in these waters.

Even so, Taiwan views this increase in military activity as an indication that Beijing is intensifying its threat to Taiwan.

Since the last few years, China has continued to increase its presence around Taiwan by sending fighter planes and warships. The country continues to expand its presence in the Taiwan Strait and South China Sea, as well as increasing the intensity of its military exercises.

Taiwan hopes that the international community can provide greater support to face China’s increasingly real threat. (ATN)
