World Wetlands Day: Mangrove Planting will be Held Simultaneously on the Indramayu Coast

Mangrove Planting on the Indramayu Coast. Special

ASIATODAY.ID, DENPASAR – In commemoration of World Wetlands Day, Earth Pledge and PT Arunika Bumi Lestari (PT ABL) will hold a TERA (Take Environmental Regenerative Action) Mangrove planting action Batch-2 involving Gen Z.

This mangrove planting will be carried out on Saturday, February 15 2024 at Tiris Beach, Pabean Ilir Village, Indramayu Regency with the theme “Sustainability with Gen Z is Amazing”.

The participants who will be present at the Mangrove planting are representatives from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), Regional Government, Carbon Ethics, GiZ, PILI Foundation, PT Triputra Agro Persada, PT ABL, Mandiri Hijau Lestari Foundation, PT Ellibes Kreasi Indonesia, Rapi Jaya Farmers Group and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Group as well as students and students.

Deputy Head of Permanent Committee for Planning and Evaluation of Watershed, Protected Forest and Mangrove, KADIN Indonesia, Chintya Dian Astuty, said that the collective action to plant Mangroves is very important, especially since this activity involves Gen Z young people who are always enthusiastic and care about the environment.

“We should appreciate and support the world of education and corporations in achieving Net Zero Emissions in their operations, as well as ensuring the integration of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles in every operational activity and social relations of all parties,” said Chintya when met on the sidelines of Mangrove Planting with PTC (Pertamina Training & Consulting) Friday, 14 February 2025 in Pemogan Village, Denpasar-Bali.

Chintya also said that education regarding sustainability aspects in Environmental Rehabilitation and Restoration will always be provided to all stakeholders in order to fully understand the problems being faced.

“We believe that Gen Z has started and continues to implement ESG principles and be the pioneer of sustainable environmental awareness movements as a contribution to the Earth we share, so we are proud to carry the Earth Pledge as the main supporter of this event,” explained Chintya.

The results of the IDN Times survey in September 2022 stated that out of 1,000 respondents, Gen Z really cares about the environment, 79 percent of them stated that climate change was a serious issue, 70 percent felt responsible for climate change and 66 percent were willing to pay more for environmentally friendly products. So Earth Pledge and PT ABL will invite many parties including Gen Z to contribute and collaborate to be able to do it together so as to complement one another.

It is hoped that by planting Mangroves, Gen Z will be able to become more familiar with the Sustainability of the Environment and develop the best management technology and at the same time create a spectacular fundraising method, a sense of ownership and a spirit of protecting the Environment as well as using natural products wisely by the local community, so that they can feel the benefits. Apart from that, there will be more young people who care and are active in activities to save this planetary crisis, for the sake of sustainable life.

“Mangrove planting actually proves to the world that we have a very high concern for the environment and the younger generation by jointly carrying out mitigation and sustainable solutions,” said Chintya.

Involving Gen Z in planting mangroves is the same as educating and providing training to young people who live in urban areas and farmer groups or youth organizations in coastal areas so that their areas are protected from natural disasters and can improve the economy.

One of the aims of this Mangrove Planting is to inform stakeholders regarding the collective rehabilitation and restoration action initiated by Earth Pledge and PT ABL to achieve the Joint agenda.

“Let’s work together to protect the earth, the economy and the welfare of coastal communities,” concluded Chintya.
