“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of both countries during this difficult time,” said Prabowo. A 7.7 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter located 13 km north-northwest of Sagaing City rocked Myanmar on Friday, March 28 at around 13:00 local time.

The earthquake was reportedly felt strongly in central and northern Thailand, including Bangkok.

Based on data from the US Geological Survey (USGS), the initial quake was followed by a 6.4 magnitude quake 12 minutes later.

So far, at least 144 have been killed and hundreds more injured in Myanmar, while in Thailand at least 6 have been killed and 117 others are trapped or missing after a skyscraper in Bangkok collapsed.

Following the disaster, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has declared Bangkok an emergency zone and ordered relevant authorities to mobilize disaster response operations.

Meanwhile, based on local media monitoring, the earthquake reportedly damaged a number of infrastructure in Mandalay, including the Old Sagaing Bridge which collapsed, cutting off access between the Mandalay and Sagaing regions.

Myanmar authorities have also declared a state of emergency. (AT Network)
