ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening the Indonesia-Australia strategic partnership in pursuit of regional peace, stability, and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference following bilateral meetings at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, May 15, 2025.

Prime Minister Albanese emphasized that Indonesia is Australia’s most vital partner in maintaining peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. He highlighted the strategic significance of his visit to Indonesia as his first overseas trip following his recent re-election.

“There is no relationship more important to Australia than this one. And no country is more important to the prosperity, security, and stability of the Indo-Pacific than Indonesia,” said Albanese.

He praised Indonesia’s rapid development, noting its position as the fourth most populous country in the world and its projected rise to become the fifth-largest economy by the next decade.

Albanese commended President Prabowo’s nation-building initiatives, particularly the Free Nutritious Meals Program, for improving public welfare.

“The growth and transformation of your nation reflect the aspirations and hard work of the Indonesian people. Initiatives like the free nutritious meal program are examples of impactful leadership,” he said.

He also reaffirmed Australia’s support for Indonesia’s bid to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Boosting Cooperation in Economy, Defense, and MSMEs

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with Australia across key sectors including trade, investment, agriculture, fisheries, defense, and the empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

“We will work together to improve the capacity of our farmers and MSMEs and ensure that Indonesian fruits and seafood products meet international standards, including those in Australia,” stated Prabowo.

He welcomed the finalization of a bilateral defense cooperation agreement, calling it the most significant step in the two countries’ security relations in the past three decades.

President Prabowo underlined the importance of Indonesia and Australia as strategic neighbors, bonded not only by geography but also by a deep-rooted friendship and mutual trust.

“Family may be far away, but neighbors are always close. I am committed to maintaining the best possible relationship with our neighbor, and we are grateful that Australia shares the same sentiment,” he said.

He expressed appreciation for Australia’s visa facilitation for Indonesian citizens, particularly students, and for its support of Indonesia’s regional role in the South Pacific.

Prime Minister Albanese’s visit marks a pivotal moment in elevating the Indonesia-Australia strategic partnership. With strong cooperation in defense, economic development, and social progress, both nations are poised to play a leading role in shaping a peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. (AT Network)
