ASIATODAY.ID, DENPASAR – Indonesia is setting a new milestone in its marine tourism development. On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Bali Benoa Marina marked the launch of a strategic project with an estimated investment of IDR 1.6 trillion (~USD 100 million), aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s position as a world-class yachting destination.
Set within the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH) at Benoa Port, Denpasar, the marina is envisioned to welcome international luxury yachts and sailing vessels while enhancing Indonesia’s marine tourism connectivity.
Deputy Minister for Tourism, Ni Luh Puspa, emphasized that the Bali Benoa Marina is more than just infrastructure—it represents a pivotal step in Indonesia’s maritime tourism strategy.
“This project will serve as a catalyst for developing other marinas across the country—from Sabang to Raja Ampat, from Labuan Bajo to Morotai—ultimately positioning Indonesia as a leading global yachting destination,” she stated.
She also highlighted the importance of strong collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism, the Bali Provincial Government, PT Pelindo, and the local community. The marina, she hopes, will generate wide-reaching economic, cultural, and environmental benefits, especially for the people of Bali.
Bali Vice Governor I Nyoman Giri Prasta welcomed the development, stressing its potential to drive sustainable, high-quality tourism and integrated sea transportation across the island.
“This marina will be a future hub for international-standard economic growth. Bali will be accessible seamlessly by land, sea, and air,” he said.
PT Pelindo Strategy Director, Prasetyo, detailed the total investment of IDR 1.6 trillion as follows: IDR 900 billion for on-site infrastructure (marina facilities), IDR 1.2 trillion for foundational infrastructure (landscaping, navigation channels, utilities), IDR 1.6 billion internal investment from Pelindo.
“The soft launch of Bali Benoa Marina is scheduled for October 2025, with full operations expected by mid-2026,” Prasetyo explained.
Prasetyo described the project as a milestone for Benoa Port and Indonesia as a whole. With Bali already renowned globally as a tourism hotspot, the new marina is expected to attract international sailors and cruise travelers, complementing other iconic destinations like Labuan Bajo, Lombok, Wakatobi, and Banda Neira.
“This development marks Indonesia’s entry into the global marina network. For the first time, we will have a world-class marina facility, and we are opening doors for collaboration with global marina operators,” he added.
Several high-level stakeholders were present at the ceremony, including Deputy for Marketing, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Strategy Director of PT Pelindo, Prasetyo, President Director of Marina Development Indonesia (MDI), Ulf Backlund, Head of Benoa Port Authority (KSOP Class II), Aprianus Hangky.
