ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized that the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) plays a crucial role in fostering peace, stability, and prosperity across the Asian region. This message was delivered during a series of bilateral meetings and the 2025 Indonesia–China Business Reception held in Jakarta.
During his speech at the Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta on Saturday, May 24, 2025, President Prabowo described Indonesia–China relations as highly strategic and vital to shaping the future of the region.
“I believe the relationship between Indonesia and China is a highly strategic, important, and promising bilateral relationship that can shape the state of peace and stability in our region,” said President Prabowo.

He also recalled the great honor he received from the Chinese government, both before and after his official inauguration as President of Indonesia. China was the first country he visited officially after taking office.
President Prabowo expressed appreciation for the deep-rooted values of Chinese civilization, which emphasize mutual benefit and harmony. He reiterated that China is Indonesia’s largest trading partner, with an annual trade volume exceeding USD 130 billion.
“China is a very important partner in the development of our industries and technologies,” he said.
The President also highlighted the success of various bilateral projects that have created jobs, facilitated technology transfer, and aligned with Indonesia’s national interests.
President Prabowo called for expanding Indonesia–China relations beyond the economic sphere, advocating for broader cooperation in social, cultural, and political sectors.
“Our relationship should not be limited to the economy. We must build a deeper friendship and collaborate across all sectors,” he stated.
He also praised China’s leadership in supporting developing nations, particularly its stance in defending the rights of the Palestinian people.
President Prabowo invited Chinese business leaders to invest in Indonesia’s key sectors, including education, healthcare, tourism, and science and technology. He also encouraged Indonesian entrepreneurs to pursue collaborative innovation with Chinese companies.
12 Strategic MoUs Signed Between Indonesia and China: Concrete Steps Toward Shared Prosperity
As part of Premier Li Qiang’s official visit to Indonesia, a total of 12 strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Sunday, May 25, 2025. This marks a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
A major MoU was signed between Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and China’s Ministry of Commerce to enhance industrial cooperation and supply chain integration. Additionally, a trilateral MoU involving the Fujian Provincial Government was signed to advance the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” initiative.
Bank Indonesia and the People’s Bank of China agreed on a local currency transaction framework to facilitate bilateral trade and reduce reliance on the U.S. dollar, enhancing regional financial resilience.
Other MoUs included: Cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine and tuberculosis control, A protocol on the export of frozen durians from Indonesia to China, Media partnerships between Indonesia’s national news agency ANTARA and China Media Group and Xinhua News Agency.
Key agreements were also reached on: Investment cooperation between Danantara and the China Investment Corporation, Strengthening ties between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia.
Prabowo–Li Qiang Meeting Reaffirms Solidarity and Regional Vision
President Prabowo welcomed Premier Li Qiang at the Merdeka Palace in a warm bilateral meeting that underscored both nations’ commitment to advancing a peaceful and prosperous Asia.
“We see this partnership not only as beneficial for our two nations but also for the broader region, and perhaps even for the world,” President Prabowo affirmed.
Premier Li expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the long-standing solidarity between the two countries, referencing mutual support during historical milestones such as Indonesia’s independence, the tsunami, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our 75 years of diplomatic ties and shared experiences have made our friendship even stronger,” said Premier Li.
He reaffirmed China’s readiness to face global challenges alongside Indonesia and outlined five pillars that will guide future cooperation, including solidarity, economic collaboration, and mutual prosperity.
This official visit and the signing of the MoUs represent a tangible commitment to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and China.
