ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has called on Israel to officially recognize the sovereignty of Palestine. This statement was delivered during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
“Indonesia has made it clear that once Palestine is recognized by Israel, we are ready to recognize Israel and open diplomatic relations. We are also prepared to contribute peacekeeping forces to the region,” said President Prabowo.
President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s long-standing position in various international forums, emphasizing that the two-state solution is the only viable path to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
In this regard, Indonesia fully supports the upcoming high-level summit organized by France and Saudi Arabia, scheduled for June 2025.
“However, I also want to underline that we must acknowledge and guarantee Israel’s right to exist as a sovereign state, and ensure its security is protected,” he added.
President Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for France’s active role in advocating for justice and independence for Palestine.
He noted that Indonesia and France share a common vision in urging an end to violence and ensuring broader humanitarian access in Gaza.
“France will continue to push for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and call for full humanitarian access to be guaranteed,” President Prabowo stated.
Indonesia’s stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict is deeply rooted in its constitutional values, as stated in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, which mandates the nation’s commitment to promoting world peace based on freedom, eternal peace, and social justice.
