Indonesia Set to Enhance Strategic DCA with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, and Russia

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to strengthening global defense diplomacy.

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, Indonesian Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin hosted courtesy calls from three European delegations—Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, and Russia—at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Jakarta.

The meetings underscored Indonesia’s strategic efforts to expand defense cooperation with key European partners, focusing on defense industry development, technology transfer, and enhanced military investment.

Strengthening Strategic Foundations with Bosnia and Herzegovina

In a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Zukan Helez, both nations agreed on the importance of formulating a Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) to serve as a long-term framework. Key areas of collaboration include the defense industry, technology transfer, and strategic investment.

Bosnia and Herzegovina also presented significant opportunities across both military and civilian sectors that align with Indonesia’s national defense needs.

Indonesia–Italy Partnership Focused on Maritime Sector Development

The visit of Vice Admiral Giacinto Ottaviani, Deputy Chief of the Defense Staff of Italy, further solidified the Indonesia–Italy defense relationship. The discussion emphasized the importance of cooperation in modernizing Indonesia’s main weapon systems (alutsista), particularly in the maritime sector.

This collaboration is expected to bolster Indonesia’s maritime defense capabilities amid growing regional security complexities.

Russia Reaffirms Commitment as a Strategic Partner

Meanwhile, Mr. Mikhail V. Petukhov, Deputy Director of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s role as a credible partner and close strategic friend. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral defense ties and explored new opportunities for expanded cooperation.

Through these diplomatic engagements, Indonesia positions itself as a key player in global defense partnerships, committed to building sustainable, adaptive, and mutually beneficial cooperation to reinforce national resilience and regional stability. (AT Network)
