Jakarta Launches Bold “Fathers Against Corruption” Movement

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Jakarta has shaken up the commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day 2025 with the launch of the “Fathers Against Corruption” Movement—a bold initiative placing fathers at the frontline of the fight against corruption, starting from within their own homes.

The declaration was made by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during the city’s Father’s Day observance in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

Carrying the striking theme “Fathers of Integrity, Children of Quality,” the initiative underscores a powerful message: combating corruption cannot rely solely on institutions and enforcement. It must begin in the most influential space of all—the family.

Fathers Must Be the “Guardians of Integrity” at Home

Governor Pramono issued a direct challenge to fathers across Jakarta: take on the mantle of moral leadership and become the family’s primary symbol of integrity.

“Fathers must be role models, not rulers. Equality between fathers and mothers is essential, and within that equality, fathers hold a vital responsibility to uphold integrity,” he asserted.

Pramono also revealed a troubling statistic. By November 2025, the Jakarta Center for the Protection of Women and Children had received 1,926 reports, with 56 percent involving violence against children—most committed by biological or stepfathers.

He called this a serious wake-up call, emphasizing that the role of fathers must be strengthened morally and ethically.

“This is not just a ceremony. The Indonesian Father Role Model Movement must grow into a national force, and Jakarta is ready to lead it.”

Corruption Starts with Broken Role Models at Home

Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifatul Choiri Fauzi praised the decision to merge Father’s Day with International Anti-Corruption Day, calling it both strategic and provocative.

“Corruption does not appear suddenly in government offices. It grows in homes that fail to instill integrity and accountability,” she stated.

She stressed that children learn less from instructions and more from daily behavior: how a father treats his spouse, makes decisions, and handles responsibility serves as their first and most influential “school of values.”

Jakarta Aims to Shape an Anti-Corruption Generation

The event brought together 400 male civil servants, mostly fathers and soon-to-be fathers from various regional offices. According to the Jakarta Inspectorate, strengthening integrity among state apparatus cannot rely solely on rules and sanctions—it must begin with mindset and behavior at home.

The “Fathers Against Corruption” Movement is designed not as a one-off campaign but as a long-term cultural transformation, one that Jakarta plans to integrate into regional development and budgeting processes.

With this movement, Jakarta positions itself to become Indonesia’s leading family-oriented, integrity-driven city—anchored by a powerful call to action:

“When fathers change, the nation follows.”
