ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Iran is edging closer to a full-scale crisis as political unrest and geopolitical tensions intensify, prompting the Indonesian government to activate contingency plans for its citizens amid fears of an imminent US military invasion of Iran.

Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono has instructed the Indonesian Ambassador in Tehran to prepare evacuation measures for Indonesian nationals (WNI) should the security situation deteriorate further.

“I have instructed our Ambassador in Tehran to be fully prepared if evacuation becomes necessary at any time,” Sugiono said at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Economic Collapse Sparks Mass Protests in Tehran

Iran is currently facing large-scale demonstrations driven by a sharp currency collapse, which has severely disrupted business activity and eroded public purchasing power. The protests involve labor unions, merchants, and business groups, particularly in key areas of Tehran.

Despite the unrest, Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that conditions have not yet reached the threshold for immediate evacuation, as demonstrations remain concentrated in specific locations rather than nationwide.

US Strike on Iran Could Come Within 24 Hours

At the same time, tensions across the Middle East are escalating rapidly. According to Reuters, two European officials revealed that a US military strike on Iran could take place within the next 24 hours.

These claims were reinforced by Israel’s Jerusalem Post, citing an unnamed senior official, which reported that US President Donald Trump has decided to intervene militarily—although the scope and exact timing of the operation remain unclear.

US Aircraft Carrier Movement Signals Imminent Conflict

In a strong signal of impending conflict, the Pentagon has reportedly redeployed the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group from the South China Sea to the area of responsibility of US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees the Middle East.

The deployment includes a major naval formation supported by multiple warships and at least one attack submarine, with the operation expected to take approximately one week.

According to News Nation, CENTCOM’s operational area spans more than 4 million square miles, covering 21 countries—including Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Egypt—making it one of the world’s most geopolitically volatile regions.

Indonesia on High Alert as the World Watches

As the prospect of a large-scale confrontation grows more tangible, Indonesia’s precautionary measures underscore the urgency of protecting its citizens abroad.

The international community is now watching closely as the Iran crisis threatens to erupt into a full-blown US–Iran war, with far-reaching consequences for regional and global stability. (AT Network)
