ASIATODAY.ID, MAKASSAR — The HGI City Cup 2026–Makassar Fest, a seasonal domino tournament program organized by Higgs Games Island (HGI), officially concluded in grand style at the Main Atrium of Trans Studio Mall Makassar on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
Running from January 14 to February 8, 2026, the event successfully attracted thousands of visitors and engaged hundreds of domino players from various communities.
HGI City Cup 2026 is part of a strategic mind sport competition series, beginning with the Domino Tournament Qualifying Rounds on January 14 and culminating in the Grand Final held from February 6–8, 2026.
The final stage was presented in a vibrant cultural and community carnival format. A total of 16 finalists competed in the championship round.
Beyond the thrilling Final Domino Match, visitors enthusiastically participated in various interactive games, including Ludo, Billiards, Ring Toss, and Domino Fun Games.
The entire event was open to the public free of charge and featured exclusive HGI merchandise giveaways, ranging from power banks, TWS earbuds, standing fans, tote bags, umbrellas, to domino card sets.
Eko Budi, Director of PR Strategy at Higgs Games Island, stated that the HGI City Cup reflects HGI’s long-term commitment to promoting positive, strategy-based entertainment.
“Through the HGI City Cup, we aim to affirm that domino is a strategic game and a true mind sport that emphasizes concentration, analytical thinking, and sportsmanship. All competitions are conducted professionally, supported by digital systems to ensure orderliness, transparency, fairness, and a gambling-free environment,” he explained.
From a sporting perspective, the Executive Board of PORDI (Indonesian Domino Sports Association) expressed appreciation for the tournament’s high standards of competition and sportsmanship.
“Tournaments such as the HGI City Cup demonstrate that domino can be presented in a professional, structured, and educational manner. It provides a healthy development platform for communities while strengthening domino’s position as a recognized mind sport,” said a representative of PORDI’s Executive Board.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) praised the HGI City Cup as a positive collaboration between sports, culture, and the wider community.
“We hope the HGI City Cup can be held in regions across Indonesia that possess strong cultural value and tourism potential. We want domino to gain broader recognition, even on the global stage,” the representative remarked.
The HGI City Cup 2026 – Makassar Fest also involved local arts and fashion MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), which benefited from increased visitor traffic and commercial transactions throughout the event.
The closing ceremony was further enlivened by performances from Toton Caribo and Moluccan Soul, drawing enthusiastic cheers from thousands of spectators.
Following its success in Makassar, the HGI City Cup 2026 will continue in Surabaya, carrying forward its seasonal domino tournament and community carnival series to the next host city. (AT Network)
