ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Turkish industrial group Evyap has officially opened a US$130 million (IDR2.33 trillion) manufacturing facility in Indonesia’s Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (SEZ), expanding its regional production footprint as Southeast Asia’s largest economy continues to attract foreign manufacturers through its downstream industrialisation strategy.
Operated by PT Evyap Sabun Indonesia, the new plant in North Sumatra will manufacture a range of palm oil-derived products, including fatty acids, glycerin, soap noodles, and finished soap products for both domestic and international markets.
The facility represents one of the latest foreign manufacturing investments supporting Indonesia’s push to increase value-added processing of its abundant natural resources while strengthening its position in regional and global supply chains.
According to Indonesia’s National Council for Special Economic Zones, the investment reflects continued confidence among international companies in the country’s industrial policies and investment climate.
“This investment demonstrates the effectiveness of Indonesia’s Special Economic Zone strategy in building a competitive industrial ecosystem through collaboration between the central government, regional authorities, SEZ operators, and private investors,” Acting Secretary-General of the National SEZ Council Rizal Edwin Manansang said in a statement.
Construction of the facility began in March 2023 and was completed in about three years.
Saw Lee Chyan, Chief Executive Officer of Evyap Life Chemistry, said the integrated infrastructure and one-stop investment services available at Sei Mangkei SEZ enabled the company to accelerate construction and begin operations more efficiently than at many alternative industrial locations.
“The Special Economic Zone provided an integrated one-stop solution that significantly accelerated our development process and enabled us to begin commercial operations sooner,” he said.
Supported by three production lines, the facility has a combined annual production capacity of 650,000 tonnes. Evyap Life Chemistry currently serves more than 600 customers across 55 countries, highlighting the strategic role of the Indonesian plant in the company’s global production and export network.
According to the National Council for Special Economic Zones, Sei Mangkei SEZ had attracted cumulative investment of IDR31.8 trillion and created 14,689 jobs as of the first quarter of 2026.
Nationwide, Indonesia’s Special Economic Zones have secured IDR153.3 trillion in cumulative investment from 153 companies, with approximately 73% originating from foreign direct investment (FDI). The figures reflect the increasingly important role of Indonesia’s SEZ programme in attracting export-oriented manufacturing investment and strengthening the country’s position as one of Southeast Asia’s emerging industrial production hubs.
