ASIATODAY.ID, PANGKALPINANG — Indonesia has strengthened its presence in the global herbal products market by exporting 2.9 tonnes of dried mangosteen leaves from Bangka Belitung to the United Kingdom, reflecting growing European demand for natural botanical ingredients and value-added forest products.
The shipment, weighing 2,935 kilograms and valued at approximately IDR146 million, was facilitated by Indonesia’s quarantine authority after meeting all phytosanitary and biosecurity requirements set by UK authorities.
Before the cargo was cleared for export, quarantine officers conducted comprehensive administrative and physical inspections to ensure the dried mangosteen leaves were free from quarantine plant pests and complied with international phytosanitary standards. A Phytosanitary Certificate was subsequently issued, certifying the shipment for international trade.
Herwintarti, head of the Bangka Belitung Quarantine Office, said the export reflects the growing competitiveness of the province’s non-timber forest products, particularly niche botanical commodities with strong commercial potential in international markets.
She said the agency had facilitated exports totaling 4,471 kilograms of dried mangosteen leaves to the United Kingdom during the first half of 2026.
Over the same period, 826 kilograms of dried ketapang leaves were exported to Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany, underscoring rising global demand for Indonesia’s plant-based and botanical products.
The quarantine authority said it continues to enforce internationally recognized phytosanitary standards to ensure Indonesian agricultural exports meet importing countries’ biosecurity requirements while protecting the country’s plant resources.
The latest shipment also supports Indonesia’s broader strategy to diversify its export portfolio by promoting higher-value, non-timber forest products and expanding access to premium overseas markets.
As global demand for herbal ingredients, natural extracts, and sustainably sourced botanical products continues to grow, Bangka Belitung is emerging as an important supplier in Indonesia’s expanding herbal export industry, creating new opportunities for local producers to reach international buyers.
