ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia has moved to reinforce its energy security after receiving a major Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) shipment from the United States, adding fresh supplies to national reserves as global energy markets continue to face uncertainty.

The Pertamina Gas 1 (PG1) vessel delivered approximately 45,900 metric tons of LPG from Freeport, Texas, comprising around 23,000 metric tons of propane and 22,800 metric tons of butane.

The shipment is part of Indonesia’s strategy to maintain a stable energy supply by diversifying sources and strengthening its integrated logistics network, from procurement and international transportation to storage and domestic distribution.

Pertamina Patra Niaga Vice President of Corporate Communication Kitty Andhora said the company continues to optimize its supply chain to ensure LPG availability for households and productive sectors across Indonesia.

“Every stage of the supply chain, from procurement to distribution, is managed in an integrated manner to ensure energy availability remains safe, reliable, and sustainable,” Kitty said.

The latest cargo is equivalent to approximately 15.2 million three-kilogram LPG cylinders, a widely used household energy source in Indonesia.

Following its arrival, around 26,000 metric tons of LPG were unloaded at the Sekong LPG Terminal in Banten, while another 19,900 metric tons were delivered to the Arun LPG Terminal in Aceh. The supplies will be added to national reserves before being distributed through Pertamina Patra Niaga’s nationwide network.

Energy Security Becomes Strategic Priority

Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest economy, has increasingly prioritized energy resilience as geopolitical tensions, supply disruptions, and market volatility reshape global energy flows.

As an archipelagic nation with more than 270 million people, Indonesia relies on a reliable and efficient energy distribution system to support households, businesses, and industrial activities across its vast territory.

The latest LPG delivery reflects Jakarta’s broader approach to securing energy availability through international supply partnerships, diversified sourcing, and investment in logistics infrastructure.

Pertamina Patra Niaga, the downstream unit of state energy company Pertamina, said it will continue improving shipping capacity, storage facilities, and distribution networks to maintain reliable access to energy across the country.

The shipment from Texas highlights Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen energy resilience while navigating a rapidly changing global energy landscape. (AT Network)
