ASIATODAY.ID, CAIRO – Aid from the community and the Indonesian government was sent via Al Arish Airport on November 6 2023 and entered Gaza, Palestine on November 9 2023. This has been confirmed by the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) and conveyed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Egypt, Lutfi Rauf, on Sunday (12/11/2023).
“Furthermore, we will continue to coordinate with the Palestinian Red Crescent to monitor the process of distributing aid to the final destination, namely various hospitals in the Gaza area and parties in need,” said Ambassador Lutfi, quoted from a press release, Monday (13/11/2023 ).
Ambassador Lutfi further emphasized his hope that humanitarian assistance from Indonesia can immediately be received by the Palestinian people in need and can help alleviate the difficulties and suffering they are experiencing.
“As the Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized, Indonesia will always be with Palestine, Indonesia will continue to support the struggle of the Palestinian people,” he said.
Ambassador Lutfi also emphasized the commitment of the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo to monitor the smooth distribution of aid in Gaza.
As is known, on November 4 2023, President Joko Widodo dispatched humanitarian aid from the people and the Indonesian government to the Palestinian people in Gaza. The first stage of aid, amounting to 50.8 tons, consisted of foodstuffs, medical equipment, blankets, tents and other logistical items.
The delivery was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pahala Mansury, and was received by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Cairo together with ERC representatives and representatives of the Egyptian authorities at El Arish International Airport, Egypt’s Main Sinai on November 6 2023.
Based on monitoring by the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, after going through a series of ground-handling and transit processes at the warehouse on 6 November 2023, on 7 November 2023, the aid goods had been transported by lorry trucks to the first queue pool for aid goods in Al Arish, North Sinai, Egypt and then immediately move towards Nitzana, the Egyptian-Israeli border area which is 42 km from Rafah.
On November 8 2023, it was reported that the lorries carrying the aid in question had entered the queue for physical checks carried out by the Israeli side at the Rafah border gate.
On November 9 2023, the ERC Team in the field confirmed to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Cairo that the trucks carrying the first stage of aid from Indonesia had successfully entered Gaza.
This news was confirmed through Al Jazeera reporting on November 10 2023 which quoted a statement from the Israeli military which stated that around 700 trucks of humanitarian aid had entered Gaza, where in the coverage in question one of them showed footage of trucks carrying aid from Indonesia.
