Ambassador Sung Y. Kim: The Future of Indonesia-US Bilateral Relations is Very Bright

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – United States Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Y. Kim ended in Indonesia on Monday, November 20 2023, after three successful and memorable years in that country.

Since becoming US Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia in October 2020, Ambassador Kim has sought to strengthen and encourage strong ties of friendship between the United States and Indonesia based on shared values ​​including democracy, diversity and pluralism.

Under Ambassador Kim’s leadership, the United States and Indonesia have successfully collaborated in various sectors, including expanding trade and investment relations, overcoming the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, increasing educational and cultural exchanges between the US and Indonesia, overcoming the climate crisis by advancing the energy transition in Indonesia, Strengthen maritime security, and strengthen the strong US-Indonesia conservation partnership.

At the end of his ambassadorial term to Indonesia, the United States and Indonesia upgraded relations between the two countries to the level of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a historic new phase in bilateral relations.

“As I end my assignment in Indonesia and look back on my time here, I am proud to have witnessed so many successes achieved through partnerships with the Indonesian government and people. “The future of our bilateral relations is very bright, and I am very confident that our cooperation in facing common challenges will continue to ensure stability and prosperity throughout ASEAN and also the wider Indo-Pacific region,” said Ambassador Kim, quoted from a US Embassy broadcast.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the United States Ambassador to this extraordinary country.”

With the end of Ambassador Kim’s duties, the Deputy US Ambassador in Jakarta, Michael F. Kleine, will assume his duties as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim. (AT Network)
