ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Mount Semeru in Lumajang, East Java experienced another eruption several times on Tuesday, December 19 2023.
In the video footage, residents can be seen puffs of smoke coming from the rim of the crater at the top of Mount Semeru. Meanwhile, CCTV monitoring in Supiturang Village, Pronojiwo District, Lumajang Regency, saw an eruption of smoke descending across the lava path.
Based on periodic visual observation reports from the Center for Volcanology and Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) at the Mount Semeru Monitoring Post, it was recorded that eruptions occurred 7 times with gray-white ash columns and smoke reaching 800 meters high.
Meanwhile, earthquake observations recorded that during the period 06.00 – 12.00 WIB there were 19 eruptions with a maximum amplitude of 22 meters with a duration of 85-112 seconds. Earthquake avalanches were also recorded to have occurred twice with an amplitude of 6-8 millimeters with a duration of 66-152 seconds.
Until now, the highest mountain on the island of Java is still at Alert level IIII.
Due to this volcanic activity, the Lumajang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency said there was no impact on the local community. Even so, the agency said it would remain alert and guard against threats of danger. The public has been asked to be aware of the potential for ashfall disasters and the potential for hot clouds to fall, lava and lava avalanches along the river flow. (AT Network)
