Train Crash in Indonesia: 4 Killed, 22 Injured

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Management of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) said that as many as 4 train officers were killed and 22 passengers were injured in the collision of the Turanga train (KA) with the Bandung local train at KM 181+700 road between Haurpugur Station – Cicalengka Station, Bandung Regency, West Java, on Friday, January 5 2024.

EVP of Corporate Secretary KAI Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji explained that the four victims who died were KAI officers consisting of a driver, assistant driver, flight attendant and security.

“We are very saddened by the death of a number of railway officers as a result of this accident. We really appreciate their services who have contributed to the company,” said Agus in his official statement, Friday, January 5 2024.

Agus said that until now there had been no fatalities among passengers. Of the total 287 passengers on the Turangga train and 191 passengers on the Commuterline train, 22 passengers suffered minor injuries.

The injured victims have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. In detail, 18 people were taken to Cicalengka Regional Hospital, 2 people were taken to Edelweis Hospital, and 2 people were taken to AMC Hospital.

Agus continued, the passengers who were safe and had been evacuated were immediately taken to the nearest station to continue their journey using the transportation provided by KAI.

Currently, the entire KAI team along with related parties such as the military, police, search and rescue agency, Ministry of Transportation and National Transportation Safety Commission and other parties are making efforts to handle the accidents of the two trains.

To overcome travel disruptions for a number of trains that will pass on this route, KAI has made efforts to engineer operational patterns in the form of detours and diversions using other transportation. (AT Network)
