ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian government continues to finalize plans to build a nuclear power plant.
In this context, the National Energy Council (DEN) held a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) on plans to build a Nuclear Power Plant which will be held in a hybrid manner, on Wednesday, January 31 2024.
Apart from DEN, this FGD involved the PT Thorcon team, Ministries/Institutions as well as related energy stakeholders. The FGD aims to obtain views, thoughts and input regarding preparations for sustainable development of nuclear power plants in Indonesia to support the achievement of new renewable energy targets in the energy transition scenario towards Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in 2060.
“Nuclear Power Plants are a potential option in the national energy mix,” said member of DEN Indonesia, Agus Pudji Prasetyono.
Agus Pudji further added that in plans for the development of Nuclear Power Plants it is necessary to pay attention to the role of regional governments in the design of spatial plans and regional planning plans, site, Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL), and the benefits of Nuclear Power Plant operating areas.
An update on plans for the construction of the Thorcon TMSR500 Nuclear Power Plant in Indonesia was delivered by the PT Thorcon team which has prepared milestones for the development of the Nuclear Power Plant and an outline of the proposal that will be submitted by the Government.
Meanwhile, representative of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Sriyana said that the site permit must be simultaneous with the Nuclear Energy Supervisory Agency (Bappeten) as well as the environmental permit.
Meanwhile, Representative of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Ridha Yasser, expressed his support for the plan to build a Nuclear Power Plant.
“The existence of this Nuclear Power Plant will increase Indonesia’s bargaining position in renewable energy,” he said. (AT Network)
