Shell Build Grease Manufacturing Plant in Indonesia, Third Largest in the World

Lubricants Oil Blending Plant (LOBP) Shell Factory in Marunda, Bekasi, West Java. Doc

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Multinational oil and lubricant company Shell has started building the first Grease Manufacturing Plant (GMP) in Indonesia. This factory will be Shell’s third largest lubricant manufacturer globally.

This factory is a further investment and complements Shell’s Lubricants Oil Blending Plant (LOBP) in Marunda, Bekasi, West Java.

Jason Wong, Executive Vice President Global Lubricants Shell, said Shell’s new factory will have a production capacity of up to 12 million liters per year, making this facility the third largest globally.

“This will help meet Indonesia’s need for high quality Grace products,” said Wong at the groundbreaking for the construction of the Shell Grease Manufacturing Plant in Jakarta, Monday, March 4 2024.

According to Wong, the construction of this factory was based on Indonesia being a strategic growth market for Shell and playing an important role in the lubricant industry in the region.

Wong did not mention the investment value for building this facility, but he emphasized that the most important aspect in building a factory lies in capacity and sustainable investment.

This, said Wong, can be seen from the example of the Shell factory in Marunda, which previously had a capacity of 136 million liters and was then doubled to 300 million liters per year.

Managing Director of Lubricants Shell Indonesia Andri Pratiwa said that this new factory will produce Shell Gadus branded products.

This product is used for various industrial sectors, including mining, agriculture, power generation and manufacturing.

“We focus production here for domestic consumption, that’s what we prioritized first,” said Andri.

Shell first invested in Indonesia by building its largest lubricant oil blending plant or Shell Lubricants Oil Blending Plant (LOBP) in Marunda, Bekasi in 2015.

This factory produces various lubricant products including Shell Helix (car engine lubricant), Shell Advance (motorcycle lubricant), Shell Rimula (heavy duty diesel engine lubricant), Shell Spirax (transmission lubricant), and other industrial lubricants.

The initial production capacity of the factory is 136 million liters per year and will then be doubled to 300 million liters in 2022. (ATN)
