ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani welcomed the launch of the *France–Indonesia High-Level Business Council* as a strategic step to strengthen economic relations between Indonesia and France, while accelerating investment realization and trade cooperation between the two countries.
The high-level business council was officially launched on May 28, 2026, in the presence of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron during President Prabowo’s official state visit to France.
“The establishment of the France–Indonesia High-Level Business Council marks an important milestone in strengthening the economic partnership between our two countries. This forum will not only serve as a platform for dialogue among business leaders, but also as a driving force for investment, trade, and strategic cooperation that delivers tangible benefits to both nations,” Rosan said in a statement on May 29, 2026.
The business forum brought together 30 leading industry executives and corporate leaders from Indonesia and France, representing a combined market capitalization of approximately US$1.3 trillion. The council is co-chaired by Antoine de Saint-Affrique, Chair of the France–Indonesia Business Council at MEDEF International and Chief Executive Officer of Danone, and Anindya Bakrie, Chair of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia).
Rosan noted that the launch of the business council also resulted in four new commercial agreements worth US$3.5 billion, focused on energy security, trade, and defense cooperation.
“French businesses’ confidence in Indonesia continues to grow. The agreements reached demonstrate that Indonesia is viewed as a strategic partner with strong long-term growth prospects and an increasingly competitive investment climate,” he said.
According to Rosan, the council will also play a critical role in overseeing the implementation of previously signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and investment commitments. During President Macron’s state visit to Indonesia in May 2025, a total of 27 MoUs valued at more than US$11 billion were signed.
“Equally important is ensuring that these commitments are translated into concrete projects. The council will serve as a platform to identify bottlenecks, accelerate problem-solving, and ensure that investments are implemented effectively,” Rosan added.
The Indonesia–France Business Council aims to triple bilateral trade between the two countries by 2035. With the full support of both governments, Kadin Indonesia and MEDEF International will continue strengthening the bilateral economic corridor and unlocking new opportunities for cooperation across strategic sectors.
“We are optimistic that economic relations between Indonesia and France will continue to grow stronger. Collaboration between governments and the private sector is essential to fostering sustainable growth, creating jobs, and enhancing the competitiveness of both countries amid an increasingly dynamic global economy,” Rosan concluded.
