ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — India’s Hinduja Group, one of the country’s largest and most influential global business conglomerates, is strengthening its investment outlook in Indonesia through its automotive flagship Ashok Leyland, as the company explores potential partnerships with local industry players.
The move highlights growing confidence from Indian investors toward Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest economy, which continues to attract global companies through its industrial development, infrastructure expansion, and downstream manufacturing strategy.
Indonesia’s Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry Rosan Roeslani said Ashok Leyland’s expansion plan follows discussions involving Hinduja Group, Indonesia’s sovereign investment entity Danantara, and the Ministry of Investment regarding potential investment opportunities.
“One of India’s largest conglomerates, Hinduja Group, through Ashok Leyland, one of the world’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, has expressed its commitment to expanding its presence in Indonesia through partnerships with local companies,” Rosan said.
Founded in 1914, Hinduja Group has grown into a diversified multinational enterprise with interests across key sectors, including automotive, financial services, technology, energy, healthcare, infrastructure, and industrial solutions. The group has established a global presence and is recognized as one of India’s leading family-owned business groups.
Its automotive arm, Ashok Leyland, is among India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, producing trucks, buses, and mobility solutions for domestic and international markets. The company has also been expanding into electric mobility and cleaner transportation technologies in response to global shifts toward sustainable mobility.
Rosan said potential cooperation with Hinduja Group could bring new investment, strengthen Indonesia’s automotive ecosystem, encourage technology transfer, and expand opportunities for domestic suppliers to participate in global supply chains.
Indonesia has been actively promoting high-value manufacturing investment as part of its industrial downstream agenda, aiming to transform the country from a resource-based economy into a stronger manufacturing and production hub.
For Hinduja Group, Indonesia offers strategic advantages through its large domestic market, growing automotive demand, skilled workforce, and position as a gateway to the wider ASEAN region.
The potential expansion also reflects strengthening economic relations between Indonesia and India, with both countries seeking deeper cooperation in manufacturing, infrastructure, technology, and strategic industries amid increasing investment competition across Asia.
As global companies continue to diversify supply chains and seek new growth markets, Indonesia is emerging as a key destination for multinational expansion — and Hinduja Group’s interest signals another major step in that direction. (AT Network)
