China becomes Indonesia’s Largest Trading Partner

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi, said that China is Indonesia’s largest trading partner. He said that Indonesia’s trade volume with China reached more than US$127 billion.

“In the economic sector, China is one of Indonesia’s important partners. China is Indonesia’s largest trading partner with a trade volume of more than US$127 billion,” he said, in a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after a bilateral meeting with the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, on Thursday, April 18 2024.

Retno explained that China is also one of Indonesia’s largest foreign investors with an investment value of more than US$7.4 billion last year.

Furthermore, he stated that there are several focuses on Indonesia’s investment cooperation with China which will continue to be strengthened.

“Several focuses of investment cooperation will continue to be strengthened, including in the areas of industrial downstreaming, infrastructure development, manufacturing, energy transition and food security,” he said.

Retno explained that a more detailed discussion of the economies of the two countries would be discussed at the High Level Dialogue Cooperation Mechanism (HDCM) meeting.

Retno emphasized that in the bilateral meeting with China, the two countries agreed to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation.
