ASIATODAY.ID, TEL AVIV – The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands is reportedly ready to issue arrest warrants for Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu and his officials.
The arrest warrant was allegedly related to violations of international law in Gaza.
Israeli TV channel Channel 12 quoted from The Times of Israel, Friday, April 19 2024, reported that three ministers and several Israeli government legal experts held emergency talks.
The emergency talks were held at the Israeli PM’s Office, Tuesday, April 16 2024, to find ways to avoid the potential arrest warrant.
The conversation took place after Tel Aviv received a message indicating that the arrest warrant would be carried out in the future.
The office of Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz confirmed that the meeting had indeed taken place. They said the discussions were held with the possibility of the arrest warrant being given to an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) official.
The Israeli TV channel reported Netanyahu raised the issue at his meeting with British Foreign Minister David Cameron and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, and asked for their help.
The report from the TV channel said that at a discussion in the Israeli PM’s office, which was also attended by Katz, Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin, and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, it was decided that Israel would approach the ICC.
Tel Aviv will also bring an influential diplomatic figure to the hearing, in an attempt to block the arrest warrant from being issued.
Israel’s attack on Gaza, in retaliation for Hamas’ actions on October 7, has caused major destruction in the closed territory. Gaza’s Health Minister reported that more than 33,000 Palestinian civilians were killed by Israel.
Israel’s relentless attacks are under pressure from the international community to stop immediately because of the potential for genocide.
However, this does not seem to have stopped the Zionist regime, even though pressure for a ceasefire continues to be raised. (ATN)
