ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – A coal tugboat was pelted with Molotov cocktails while crossing a river in Tembesi, Batanghari Regency, Jambi, Thursday, May 23 2024.
Peoples protested because there were still coal ships crossing the river in Jambi. In fact, the local government has imposed a ban on transport traffic.
In the video circulating, this action caused the people in the tugboat to panic. It appeared that fire was already burning on the ship. The Molotov cocktail was thrown from the bridge and then hit the left hull of the Mega Power Tugboat. Luckily, the crew managed to extinguish the fire.
Police Commissioner Amin Nasution, Head of the Public Information Sub-division for Jambi Regional Police, said that his party had held a meeting with the regional government, local community leaders and the crew of the coal barge following the throwing.
“This problem has been resolved,” he said.
The actions of the coal tugboat owner crossing the Jambi River are very regrettable because they do not follow government regulations.
In fact, the cessation of coal transportation operations on the river has been done through an agreement with the coal company. This policy applies until the bridge has been repaired. (AT Network)
