Investing US$ 2 Million, King’s College London Opens Campus in SEZ Singhasari

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – King’s College London (KCL) has officially received permission to develop education in the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Malang. This top British university will start its first academic year in Indonesia in September 2024.

The Coordinating Minister for the Indonesian Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, said that King’s College London was the first university to be included in the development of SEZ in the education sector.

“In SEZ Singhasari, permits have been given by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and this is the first. So from this KEK we have developed manufacturing, then health,” said Airlangga at a joint event with the KEK Singhasari developer and King’s College London at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy , Jakarta, Thursday, June 20 2024.

The plan is that King’s College London will open seats for 150 master’s program students in its first academic year at SEZ Singhasari. However, Airlangga hopes that the availability of seats can increase to 1,500 students.

“A total of 150 is to small, we need 1,500, so you tell me and how to achieve that,” added Airlangga to the representatives of King’s College London who were present.

Meanwhile, CEO of PT Intelegensia Grahatama Singhasari Special Economic Zone, David Santoso, said that King’s College London had invested US$ 2 million to build a campus in Malang City.

The investment value has the potential to increase along with the development of the education sector in the Singhasari SEZ. Likewise regarding the request for 1,500 students which can later increase gradually.

Not only King’s College London, a number of world-renowned campuses will also enter the Singhasari SEZ in the near future, including the Russell Group, the Ivy League. (ATN)
