ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, revealed that the European Union (EU) has requested a renegotiation of a number of agreements in the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA).
Airlangga revealed that in fact an agreement had been reached between Indonesia and the European Union regarding the contents of the agreement in IEU-CEPA. However, the agreement has changed because the European Union currently has a new government.
“So the negotiations that have been going on for 9 years, we will have a decision on, we will finish, but because of the new cabinet in the EU, of course there will be new demands,” explained Airlangga, in Jakarta, Monday, September 23 2024.
Airlangga explained that currently the government is still trying to finalize the IEU-CEPA agreement even though negotiations are going hard.
The European Union asked for re-agreement on three issues. “They want the import problem to be immediately made easier in Indonesia, then they are still being tough regarding export duties, and also regarding taxation on digital transmissions,” said Airlangga.
These issues that created the IEU-CEPA agreement are still pending today. (AT Network)
