Indonesian Navy and Russian Navy Hold Massive Exercises in the Java Sea

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and Russian Navy, is holding a large-scale exercise, namely ORRUDA 24, in the Java Sea, precisely in the city of Surabaya, starting Monday, November 4 2024.

ORRUDA is a combination of the national symbols of the two countries, namely Orel (Russian Eagle) and Garuda (Indonesia). This exercise is in order to increase interoperability and military cooperation between Indonesia and Russia.

“This exercise is one of the results of a navy-to-navy meeting held in 2018, as our commitment to increasing mutual understanding in maritime security. This collaboration is expected to contribute to maritime peace and security in the region,” said the Chief of Naval Staff Indonesia, TNI Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Indonesian Armada Command, Vice Admiral TNI Dr. Denih Hendrata said that this exercise was to improve good relations, diplomacy between Indonesia and Russia, especially the Navy, as well as Indonesia’s free and active politics.

“The Maritime Security exercise equalizes the perception of how we train and unites one view on the importance of maritime security. Maritime security is very important for any country and we should be able to protect each other and respect each other’s sovereignty in our respective territories,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Commander of the Flotilla of the Russian Navy, Rear Admiral Aleksei Tysuev, explained that this joint exercise was important to carry out because it could help in dealing with critical situations so that he was always ready to respond to developing situations.

This joint training is divided into two phases, namely Harbor Phase and Sea Phase. The main defense system equipment that will be deployed by the Indonesian Navy in the ORRUDA 24 exercise includes the KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332, KRI Frans Kaisiepo-368, and the AS 565 MBE helicopter. Meanwhile, the Russian Navy will deploy Corvette Class warships such as RF Rezky, RF Gromky and RF Aldar Tsydenzhapov, as well as Medium Tanker Ship Pechenga, KA-27 Helicopter and Tug Salvage Alatau.
