ASIATODAY.ID, SURABAYA – For the first time, the Russian Navy visit the 8-588 UFA Submarine to Indonesia. The submarine docked at Jamrud Utara Pier, Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, Thursday, November 7 2024. At the same time, the Rescue Tugboat Alatau (Supply Vessel) also docked at the same pier.

The arrival of the two ships took place in the middle of a joint exercise between the Indonesian Navy and the Russian Navy under the name “Orruda 2024”.

“In the joint exercise between the Indonesian Navy and the Russian Navy ‘Orruda 2024’ which is currently being implemented, one of the agendas is a port visit by a Russian Submarine to the Indonesian Navy Base in Surabaya. This is the first time a Russian Submarine has carried out a port visit in Indonesia, “said Commander of the Submarine Unit of Koarmada II, Marine Colonel (P) Yulius Azz Zaenal in a statement broadcast by the Naval Information Service, Thursday.

The arrival of Submarine 8-588 UFA and Rescue Tugboat Alatau (Supply Vessel) as part of this submarine visit was welcomed by the Indonesian Navy V Main Base.

In Surabaya, the crew from Russia will carry out an agenda of activities in the form of a memorial visit to the Nanggala Monument, discussions, sports, dinner and a city tour.

In his remarks, Commander of the Main Base of the Indonesian Navy, V Admiral TNI Arya Delano, read by Dansatrol Lantamal V, Marine Colonel (P) Edy Setyawan, welcomed the Russian Navy to the city of Surabaya.

“Hopefully the cooperative relationship in the Submarine sector between the Indonesian Navy and the Russian Navy can be established closely and get better,” said Edy Setyawan.

On the other hand, the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, expressed his gratitude for the welcome given. He revealed that the Russian Navy felt very happy and proud to be able to arrive in Indonesia, especially in the city of Surabaya.

“Hopefully our cooperative relations in the Submarine sector can continue to be good,” said Sergei Tolchenov.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali, on a separate occasion said that the exercise and implementation of this port visit was to improve diplomatic relations with friendly countries in the region, in addition to increasing the professionalism of TNI Navy soldiers.
