GOTO, Tencent and Alibaba Collaborate to Build Indonesia’s Digital Economy

ASIATODAY.ID, BEIJING – GOTO Group, Tencent Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud announced the latest collaboration aimed at boosting Indonesia’s digital economy and supporting the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045.

GOTO, Tencent and Alibaba signed an agreement regarding strengthening cloud infrastructure and developing local digital talent in Indonesia. The agreement was announced at the Indonesia-China Business Forum facilitated by the Chinese Committee of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and witnessed directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto in Beijing, China, Sunday, November 10 2024.

GOTO, Tencent and Alibaba will collaborate with the Indonesian Government and are committed to equipping the Indonesian workforce with the skills needed to excel in the global digital economy.

In detail, Tencent Cloud will build its third internet data center (IDC) in Indonesia. This step is part of a new investment commitment worth around US$500 million in infrastructure and resources in Indonesia until 2030.

Meanwhile, this investment aims to empower local companies with advanced cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, encourage the digital economy and the adoption of AI technology.

Furthermore, Alibaba Cloud has established three data centers and collaborated with various local educational institutions to train nearly 400 thousand individuals in the field of cloud and AI.

Alibaba Cloud also plans to double its number to 800 thousand people by 2033 and will establish a Skills Center at the University of Indonesia to offer specialized training as part of the Alibaba Cloud Academic Empowerment Program (AAEP).

Meanwhile, Tencent Cloud and Alibaba Cloud’s commitment is built on a broader cloud services contract between the two companies and the GOTO Group which was announced in September 2024. This agreement ensures that GOTO data will remain stored in Indonesia, supports national data sovereignty, and improve data security for Indonesian users and businesses.

GOTO Group President Director Patrick Walujo said the latest agreement was an important milestone for the company in its efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s digital infrastructure. According to him, the partnership with Tencent Cloud and Alibaba Cloud not only ensures that the GOTO platform remains safe and resilient but also empowers Indonesia’s digital economy.

“We hope that through this collaboration, GOTO can provide a solid foundation for our users and partners, to support sustainable economic growth, encourage innovation, and position Indonesia as a leader in digital transformation in the Southeast Asia region,” he explained in a press release, Sunday, November 10, 2024.

Meanwhile, Tencent Cloud International Senior Vice President Poshu Yeung said he was committed to empowering Indonesian companies with advanced and large-scale technology that encourages innovation and connectivity for all of society.

“Indonesia is a country with a dynamic economy with extraordinary potential and we are honored that President Prabowo Subianto could be present to witness the inauguration of this partnership,” he said.

On the other hand, Vice President of Alibaba Cloud International Sean Yuan emphasized Alibaba Cloud’s long-term commitment to Indonesia as an important market in Southeast Asia.

“We are committed to supporting Indonesia’s digital ecosystem with local, high-performance solutions that open up new opportunities for various companies, encourage economic progress, and accelerate steps towards a digitally inclusive Indonesia,” he said. (AT Network)
