ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, Bahlil Lahadalia, revealed that opportunities for cooperation between Indonesia and India are wide open, especially in the coal and nickel downstream sector.

This collaboration is very likely to be established for the development of electric vehicle batteries.

“Cooperation in the nickel downstream sector is very strategic for both countries. Indonesia can become a production center for electric vehicle batteries, while India plays a role as a main partner in the global supply chain,” said Bahlil in his statement quoted Friday, January 31, 2025.

According to Bahlil, cooperation between Indonesia and India is a golden opportunity to accelerate the development of mineral and energy-based industries in Indonesia. This will not only have a positive impact on the economy, but also strengthen domestic industry.

“This collaboration not only brings economic benefits, but also opens up space for strengthening domestic industry through technology transfer and increasing human resource capacity,” he said.

Bahlil is optimistic that Indonesia will be able to accelerate economic transformation while strengthening its position as a major player in the global supply chain.

“A consistent downstream policy will have a long-term positive impact on the national economy and bilateral relations between the two countries,” he explained.

Furthermore, Bahlil assessed that downstreaming is an unavoidable step to strengthen national economic resilience.

“Downstreaming does not just increase the added value of domestic commodities, but also creates jobs and accelerates the growth of natural resource-based manufacturing industries,” he stressed. (AT Network)
