ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, received an honorary visit from the Secretary of the Security Council on the Russian Federation, H.E. Sergei Shoigu, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday, February 25 2025. This visit is an important momentum in strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia, especially in the fields of security and defense.
The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, also accompanied President Prabowo at the meeting.
“Thank you for coming, Your Majesty. “We are old friends, and I am very happy that Your Excellency is here,” said President Prabowo.
On this occasion, President Prabowo also asked about Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“How (is) my friend, President Putin? Healthy?” asked President Prabowo.
Responding to this question, Sergei Shoigu conveyed greetings from President Putin to President Prabowo and handed over a personal letter from the Russian leader.
“Everything is fine. “President Putin, he asked me to convey respectful greetings to His Majesty and more than that I have brought a personal letter from President Putin to His Majesty,” said Sergei Shoigu.
This meeting reflects the commitment of Indonesia and Russia to continue to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including in the security and defense sectors.
Before meeting President Prabowo, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin first met H.E. Sergei Shoigu, in his office.
In this meeting, Indonesia, through the Ministry of Defense, stated that it really appreciates Russia’s continued support and cooperation, especially in encouraging understanding and cooperation in various fields, including defense and security.
“I look forward to further deepening our defense cooperation and exploring new opportunities for collaboration. “Together, we can face common security challenges and contribute to world stability and peace,” said Sjafrie.
“I hope to build people-to-people relationships, which are not only formal, but also enable the formation of close relationships between units and units,” added Sjafrie.
Both countries are committed to exploring deeper collaboration in military technology cooperation, based on mutual recognition of the strategic benefits of technology partnerships and exchange of expertise. This step is expected to strengthen military capabilities and encourage defense modernization of the two countries.
As part of this commitment, Indonesia and Russia will explore opportunities to collaborate through the Military Technical Cooperation Forum known as the Intergovernmental Commission for Military Technical Cooperation. This forum is the main forum for discussing various collaboration initiatives.
Apart from that, the two countries also established a consultation forum to coordinate planned military cooperation activities for 2025. As part of this forum, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense plans to send a delegation to Russia to discuss defense cooperation planned for 2026. (AT Network)
