ASIATODAY.ID, PARIS – The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto held a bilateral meeting with the Secretary General of the OECD Mathias Cormann on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the OECD Headquarters in Paris, France. This meeting marked Indonesia’s commitment to its desire to become a full member of the OECD and became part of the efforts and commitment of the Indonesian Government to continue communicating and coordinating with the OECD Secretariat in Paris.

One year after the opening of the accession discussion by the OECD, Indonesia has now achieved significant progress in the independent assessment process to prepare the Initial Memorandum (IM) document for OECD accession. This is reinforced by the inclusion of Indonesia’s accession program to the OECD in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RJPMN) 2025 – 2029 and President Prabowo Subianto’s “Asta Cita”.

As part of the affirmation of the Indonesian Government’s political commitment, Minister Airlangga will immediately report on the progress of the OECD accession process to President Prabowo Subianto upon his arrival in Jakarta. It is hoped that from the meeting, President Prabowo Subianto can provide strategic direction in supporting the acceleration of Indonesia’s accession process, including the process of aligning the substance of OECD instruments into the legal framework in Indonesia.

The Indonesian Government is committed to realizing 8% economic growth in stages so that efforts are needed to increase competitiveness, productivity, and investment.

Indonesia’s joining the OECD is believed to be able to increase competitiveness, productivity, and investment through structural reforms in various fields. This effort requires support from various levels of society. Collaboration between the Government and the OECD Secretariat is very important in order to promote the benefits of OECD accession.

“We look forward to further discussions on the concrete benefits of OECD accession at the upcoming OECD SEARP Forum (South East Asia Regional Programme),” said Airlangga.

The OECD SEARP Forum is a platform for collaboration between the OECD and Southeast Asian countries. This year the OECD Southeast Asia Forum will be held in Thailand on May 2, 2025.

Airlangga also underlined the planned visit of the OECD Secretary General to Jakarta in October 2025.

On that occasion, Airlangga also explained the progress of the preparation of the Initial Memorandum (IM) document which is targeted to be formally submitted at the OECD Council Meeting at the Ministerial Level in early June 2025. With the full operation of the INA OECD digital platform, the National Team Secretariat is trying to increase the progress of completing the 26 Chapters of the Initial Memorandum, after submitting 4 chapters to the OECD Secretariat for the first stage review in December 2024.

Technical support from the OECD Secretariat is very useful for Ministries/Institutions in completing the preparation of IM documents, especially for strategic areas, such as the environmental sector, trade, investment, as well as anti-corruption and regulatory reform.

“We welcome the support of the OECD Secretariat for the implementation of further technical discussions,” said Airlangga. (AT Network)
