ASIATODAY.ID, NAYPYITAW – On April 3, 2025, the Indonesian Humanitarian Assistance Team delivered US$1.3 million worth of humanitarian aid to the people of Myanmar, following the devastating earthquake that struck on March 28, 2025. The aid was received by Mr. Soe Kyi, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Relief and Resettlement, at Naypyitaw International Airport, as reported in a press release by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 6, 2025.
The leader of the Indonesian team emphasized that the aid was a gesture of solidarity from the Indonesian people to the people of Myanmar, underscoring Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening disaster response cooperation within the ASEAN region. Myanmar expressed its gratitude for the support extended by Indonesia.
The aid package, weighing 143 tons and valued at US$1.3 million, includes food supplies, medicines, medical equipment, and essentials for displaced people. Indonesia deployed a combined team consisting of personnel from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the National Search and Rescue Agency, the Ministry of Health’s Emergency Medical Team (EMT), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Indonesia’s team worked alongside various countries that also sent their Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams to provide first aid and assist in search operations for earthquake victims in Myanmar.
The earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, has claimed the lives of approximately 2,886 people, with 4,636 injured. Additionally, 351 individuals have been reported missing.
Upon arrival in Naypyitaw, the Indonesian team conducted an immediate assessment of the earthquake-affected areas near Myanmar’s capital and visited the Indonesian Joint Operations Base. The team has already facilitated the evacuation of five Indonesian nationals from Mandalay to Yangon, with four of them being from vulnerable groups. (AT Network)
