ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has made history by seizing IDR 11.8 trillion (approx. USD 720 million) in a massive corporate corruption case involving the illegal export of crude palm oil (CPO). This is now officially the largest asset seizure in the history of Indonesia’s anti-corruption efforts, and possibly in Asia.
The mountain of cash, neatly stacked in clear plastic bags containing IDR 100,000 banknotes, was dramatically displayed at AGO headquarters in Jakarta on Monday, June 17, 2025. Although only IDR 2 trillion of the total amount was showcased for public viewing, the message was loud and clear: no one is untouchable.
Seized from Major Palm Oil Subsidiaries
Director of Prosecution at the Special Crimes Unit, Sutikno, stated that the IDR 11.8 trillion was confiscated from five subsidiaries under the Wilmar Group, namely:
PT Multimas Nabati Asahan – IDR 3.99 trillion
PT Multi Nabati Sulawesi – IDR 39.7 billion
PT Sinar Alam Permai – IDR 483.9 billion
PT Wilmar Bioenergi Indonesia – IDR 57.3 billion
PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia – IDR 7.3 trillion
“These corporations were granted unlawful export facilities for CPO and its derivatives in 2022,” said Sutikno during the press conference.
Total State Losses Reach IDR 11.88 Trillion
An audit by Indonesia’s Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), along with experts from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), identified three forms of state losses: direct financial loss, illegal gain, and macroeconomic damage—totaling IDR 11.88 trillion.
Ironically, all five corporate defendants were acquitted by the Central Jakarta Corruption Court, prompting prosecutors to file an appeal to the Supreme Court.
Among the three palm oil giants implicated—Wilmar Group, Permata Hijau Group, and Musim Mas Group—only Wilmar has fully returned the IDR 11.8 trillion in stolen state funds.
The AGO is now urging the other two to follow suit:
Permata Hijau Group – IDR 937.6 billion
Musim Mas Group – IDR 4.89 trillion
“We hope Permata Hijau and Musim Mas will fulfill their obligations, just as Wilmar did,” said Sutikno.
Record-Breaking Asset Seizure in Indonesia’s Legal History
Harli Siregar, Head of the AGO’s Legal Information Center, confirmed that the IDR 11.8 trillion seizure is the largest in Indonesia’s legal history.
“This may be the most significant press conference we’ve ever held in terms of the sheer amount of money involved,” Harli stated.
Sutikno added that the cash on display represented only a fraction of the total recovered.
“What you see here is IDR 2 trillion. This is just part of the IDR 11.88 trillion we’ve seized,” he clarified. (AT Network)
