ASIATODAY.ID, SURABAYA – Kana Cooperative, through its flagship initiative “Koperasi Manis” (Sweet Cooperative), has officially entered into strategic partnerships with hundreds of Merah Putih Village Cooperatives (Kopdes Merah Putih) to strengthen Indonesia’s sugar supply chain and distribution network.
This collaboration marks a concrete step toward ensuring food availability and supporting the country’s national food sovereignty movement.
The products offered under this partnership include refined white sugar in two packaging options: 50-kg sacks and 1-kg retail packs. With these options, distribution is designed to meet both the large-scale needs of industries and cooperatives, while also catering to household consumers who require smaller quantities.
The “Koperasi Manis” program was designed as a solution to provide cooperative members with reliable, high-quality sugar supplies at affordable prices for all segments of society.
According to Jonathan Danang Wardhana, Chairman of Kana Cooperative, supporting government programs goes beyond providing input or criticism—it must also take the form of tangible action.
“We believe that government policies are the result of careful and thorough deliberation. That is why we are contributing in a real way through this collaboration,” Jonathan stated, September 4, 2025.
He further emphasized:
“This partnership is not merely a business transaction, but a genuine act of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) to strengthen food security. Kana Cooperative believes that through collaboration, we can deliver greater benefits to cooperative members and society at large. It is also our contribution to supporting government programs aimed at improving people’s welfare.”
Initial Partnership in Sidoarjo
In its first stage, Kana Cooperative has partnered with Kopdes Merah Putih Kramat Temenggung and Kopdes Merah Putih Kupang, both located in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java. The choice of Sidoarjo as the strategic base was considered ideal, as the region serves as a hub for sugar distribution, enabling more efficient delivery, better product quality, and affordable pricing.
Signing of the Agreement
The cooperation agreement was signed by Kana Cooperative’s Executive Chair, Tresya Wijaya, along with the respective heads of the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives—Rudi Irwanto (Kramat Temenggung) and Kartawi (Kupang)—marking the official commencement of this strategic partnership.
Partner Support and Enthusiasm
Rudi Irwanto, Chairman of Kopdes Merah Putih Kramat Temenggung in Sidoarjo, welcomed the program enthusiastically. He highlighted that the consignment system with deferred payment terms offered under the initiative greatly benefits the growth of his cooperative.
“The consignment system of the Koperasi Manis program really eases the burden on cooperatives. With deferred payments, we can expand our business without being weighed down by large upfront capital needs,” explained Rudi.
Similarly, Kartawi, Chairman of Kopdes Merah Putih Kupang, noted that the consignment model provides greater flexibility for cooperatives, reducing the challenges of securing additional capital.
Strengthening National Food Sovereignty
Through this collaboration, Kana Cooperative reaffirmed its commitment to being an integral part of Indonesia’s food sovereignty movement. With an efficient, structured, and partnership-based distribution system, the cooperative hopes that the “Koperasi Manis” program will bring widespread benefits to society while improving the welfare of cooperative members across the nation.
