ASIATODAY.ID, HONG KONG – Indonesia continues to broaden its investor network as part of its strategy to achieve the national economic growth target of 8% by 2029.
One of the key approaches is strengthening international cooperation through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), particularly in financing National Strategic Projects (PSN) that will be integrated with state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in infrastructure and logistics.
Deputy for SOE Management and Development at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Ferry Irawan, highlighted the significant economic impact already felt from ongoing PSN projects. A prominent example is the Jakarta–Bandung High-Speed Railway (KCJB), known as “Whoosh”, operated by the state-owned company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).
“Since its operation in 2023, Whoosh has served more than 11 million passengers, employed 90% local workers during construction, and has become a symbol of technology transfer and strategic cooperation between Indonesia and China,” said Ferry Irawan at the 10th Belt and Road Summit 2025 in Hong Kong on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
China Plays Key Role in National Strategic Projects
Ferry further explained that there are currently six major PSN projects underway, including the Tanah Kuning Industrial Zone, the new capital city Nusantara (IKN), and KCJB, with a total investment of IDR 649.49 trillion. A large portion of these investments originates from China, in collaboration with several Indonesian SOEs.
He emphasized that these projects go beyond physical infrastructure, delivering real benefits for the economy and society. Impacts include job creation, regional development, technology transfer, knowledge sharing, as well as growth in trade and investment.
“These strategic projects reflect Indonesia’s commitment to driving innovation, equitable development, and sustainable growth. We invite partners from Hong Kong, China, and other BRI countries to invest in industrial zones, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure,” Ferry concluded.
Belt and Road Summit: A Global Collaboration Platform
The Belt and Road Summit, organized annually by the Hong Kong government, serves as a key international platform to promote business collaboration along the BRI routes. This year’s 10th edition gathered over 6,000 participants from 76 countries and regions, featuring 97 prominent speakers, and facilitating more than 800 business meetings involving over 290 global projects.
The summit was also attended by high-level representatives, including the Minister of Finance of Laos, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce, the Managing Director of the World Economic Forum, and other BRI members. (AT Network)
