ASIATODAY.ID, KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed his country’s readiness to join the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in Gaza, underscoring Malaysia’s steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause amid ongoing Israeli aggression.
During a bilateral meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, October 26, 2025, Anwar expressed Malaysia’s willingness to collaborate with other nations — including members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) — in supporting a UN-led peacekeeping operation in Gaza.
“Malaysia reiterates its unwavering support for the struggle of the Palestinian people. We welcome the consistent stance of the United Nations and the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which affirmed that Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza constitutes a violation of international law,” Anwar Ibrahim said, as quoted by Bernama.
Malaysia’s Broader Role in Regional and Global Peace
Beyond the Gaza issue, Anwar and Guterres also discussed Malaysia’s leadership role as ASEAN Chair, including efforts to facilitate peace talks between Thailand and Cambodia, and to promote inclusive dialogue in Myanmar.
These initiatives strengthen Malaysia’s standing as a nation dedicated to diplomacy, peace, and regional stability.
Meanwhile, a phased ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel in Gaza, mediated through regional and international efforts — including a 20-point peace framework proposed by the United States — took effect on October 10, 2025.
Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza Remains Critical
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, more than 68,500 Palestinians have been killed and over 170,300 injured since Israel launched its large-scale military offensive in October 2023. The humanitarian toll continues to mount, highlighting the urgent need for international peacekeeping forces to ensure protection and the flow of humanitarian aid.
Malaysia’s announcement to deploy peacekeeping troops to Gaza has been widely welcomed by the international community. The move reflects growing expectations for OIC member states to play a more active role in upholding peace, justice, and humanitarian protection in Palestine. (AT Network)
